  • Alex Jewart

    Alex Jewart
    Alex is the head coach of the Pittsburgh Northstars and VP of operations at the gym. He is an excellent teacher and motivator, having received his education degree from Bucknell University in 1993. Under his leadership the Northstars have become one of the most respected teams in Pennsylvania. He and his wife Stephanie, have three budding gymnasts, Thomas, Maddie and Vitolina. His new passion is his amazing garden. A former cross-country runner, Alex knows how to set the pace in the gym for all the staff and gymnasts.
  • Katie Allen

    Katie Allen
    Katie is our head choreographer and runs our dance department at the gym. She is an assistant to both the compulsory and optional coaches on floor ex and beam which means she helps every girl on the team perfect their routines. A former BCCC volleyball star, she has her sights on improving her dance training. For fun she love Frisbee golfing and attending musical concerts. She has a 5-year old dynamo who is starting kindergarten this year, Jayce Benjamin Allen.
  • Lainy Carslaw

    Lainy Carslaw
    Our girls' teams are very lucky to have an experienced gymnast and a caring role model on our coaching staff. Lainy graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in poetry. Her sensitivity and creativity are apparent in her coaching style. She can handle any level gymnast on every event and she serves as head coach of the compulsory team and beam coach for the Northstars. Outside the gym she is a busy landlord and writer. She is currently working on her Masters of Fine Arts from Chatham University. She also heads our fundraising projects at the gym for Jewart's New Hope Foundation. She and husband Scott, have two sons, Koda and Pax.

    Kinsey Basco
    Kinsey returns to the Northstars as assistant women coach. After a successful career in the cheer world, Kinsey joins our staff to put his gymnastics background to good use. He is a skilled spotter, technician and he surprised everyone with his outstanding abilities as a choreographer. Kinsey graduated from Slippery Rock with a degree in marketing and was a member of the SRU National Champion cheer squad.

    Jeff Malone
    Coach Jeff takes on a new role this year as head coach of the Northstar boys' team. He is a former National qualifier for the Northstars. His knowledge of technique and progressions has helped our boy's program become one of the largest in the state. He comfortably teaches our Level 4 through Level 10 competitors. He is also a passionate climber and a great asset to our staff.
  • Dana Thomas

    Dana Thomas
    Dana is the Program Director of the Recreation gym. Her job is to coordinate the activiities of Lucky Stars, Jewels and Tumblers. Dana is also the head tumbling coach for the North Alleghany cheer Program. She is a former GymDandy, and was a Psychology major at W and J College. She has two beautiful daughters Danielle and Brittany.

  • Ariane Restelli

    Ariane Restelli
    Ariane is the director of our pre-school program and our developmental team, the Shooting Stars. Her responsibilities include lesson planning, staffing, and communication with the hundreds of Dipper families who attend the gym. Her assistant is Karen Schepner. Both of these enthusiastic coaches have 2 daughters who are members of the Pittsburgh Northstars and have worked in the program for 10 years. They know first hand the path to producing champion gymnasts. They are USA Gymnastics certified.
  • Kamelia Velkova-Dunlevy

    Kamelia Velkova-Dunlevy
    Kamelia is the director of our rhythmic program. Her background as a two-time National Champion in Bulgaria earned her the Master of Sport from her country. In just a short time she has won national acclaim for our rhythmic team. Her knowledge of ballet fundamentals, competitive performance and disciplined training are an asset to our entire program. She and her husband Josh, a talented saxophone player, have a daughter, Elizabeth.
  • Chris Pechar

    Chris Pechar
    Chris is the coach of the Tumbling and Trampoline program. A former Jr. Olympic National qualifier for men's gymnastics he fell in love with T and Tand began coaching at Rising Star Gymnastics. He also assists Jeff with our boys competitive team. Everyone loves this fun-loving teacher who can handle pre-schoolers as well as national competitors.
  • Nick Fabish

    Nick Fabish
    A former national boys team coach and PA State Director, he uses his expertise in fundamentals and his experience from coaching at the Olympic Training Center to guide our gymnasts and mentor our staff. A Physical Education graduate of Slippery Rock with a Masters in Biomechanics, Nick oversees the basic training at the gym. Nick is the Zen master at the gym and enjoys developing high level competitors. Last year Nick competed his certification to be an assistant physical therapist. This year Coach Fabish became a grandfather of two beautiful babies Luca and Maggie.

    Karen Schepner
    Karen Schepner is the Co-Director of our Developmental Program. Karen did 10 years of competitive gymnastics and has a BS in Early Childhood Education. She also works in our Dipper program and is a great asset to our staff. She is the busy Mom of two Northstar gymnasts, Allison and Hannah. She loves traveling and enjoying her time off with her family. She is a certified USA Gymnastics professional with completion of Safety Course, Fundamentals of Gymnastics and the Developmental Coaches course
  • Elaine Jewart

    Elaine Jewart
    Mrs. Jewart directs the business operations at Jewart's Gymnastics. As far as gymnastics goes, she has done it all. From collegiate competitor to judge, from Mom of five gymnasts to public school physical education teacher, from dancer to choreographer, she has been involved in the sport all her life and she loves it. Her children Alex, Lainy and Katie also coach at the gym. In 2009 Mrs. Jewart was recognized by the Pittsburgh Business Times as one of the Top 25 Women in Business. She is member of the Hall of Fame at Slippery Rock University and in 2000 was named 2000 PA 50 Best Women in Business. In 1999 Jewart's Gymnastics was named family business of the year. She attributes her success to life skills she learned from gymnastics.
  • Donna Hamilton

    Donna is our friendly office manager. She takes care of customer records, communication, keeping track of all the different activities in the gym, and helping keep the coaches organized. She has a great group of helpers, Mary Jayne (parties), Teresa Lehman, Maria Elmore, Marlo Reese and Cindy Jergen.
